The First Baptist Church Okelerin, Ogbomoso, Nigeria is strategically located in the heart of the ancient city.  It is a direct fruit of labour of love of Thomas Jefferson Bowen, the pioneer missionary sent to Nigeria by the Foreign Missions Board of the Southern Baptist Convention of the United States of America (USA).  The church which came into being on Sunday, September 30, 1855 is the oldest Baptist surviving church in Nigeria directly established by the missionary.
Mission is the heartbeat of the church right from its inception and it has continued to be even at the threshold of the third millennium.  In a real sense, the First Baptist Church Okelerin, Ogbomoso can be described metaphorically as the hub of the Baptist Christian Faith in Nigeria and West African sub-region.  The evangelistic fervour of the church has not worn since its One hundred and fifty four years of existence.

Apart from the successful evangelistic labour of love that has placed the First Baptist Church Okelerin, Ogbomoso in an enviable class by itself, the church has a unique administrative set up.  In addition to the elected general officers of the church, the church  council is made up of one representative from each  of the thirty five societies (Egbes) in the church.  The administration be it at church council level, finance committee or any other committee  and church in conference is largely participatory.  By this contextualized administrative structure, the usual complaint of a lack of sufficient grass root participation in decision - making process in most of our churches is resolved.

Members and worshippers alike in First Baptist Church Okelerin enjoy warm fellowship.  Another unique feature of the one hundred and fifty four year old church is the accommodation of young people and new idea despite its age.  The church holds worship services every Sunday in both Yoruba and English.  At the same time, it maintains English speaking section for elites and students.  All relate peacefully with a great sense of understanding and mutual respect.  What a wonderful fellowship!

To be  a church under God through the instrumentality of the Holy Spirit that honours and glorifies God corporately and individually in our personal, family and public life

To preach the Gospel to all men and declare the whole counsel of God that will lead to conversion of souls and disciple them to be Christlike, mature and fruit bearing Christians and to engage in mission in any part of the world.
